Projects in Operation

Virunga Power is actively investing in and supporting operations of licensed hydro-based rural utility companies in Zambia and Malawi. Our operating mini-grids are the first of their kind in each country and together serve tens of thousands of rural consumers, powered by affordable, baseload renewable energy.

Projects in Construction

The first of two run-of-river hydropower projects in Burundi under the name Songa Energy commenced construction in May 2023, with the second on track for early 2024. In Zambia, major expansion works at Zengamina have commenced as of July 2023 and will continue in 2024 and 2025 as the utility grows to serve the entire district.

Our ongoing initiatives span five different countries and encompass a diverse spectrum of prospects, including distributed generation, integrated utility solutions, and the development of comprehensive distribution networks.
